Religious Festival _IYCAP (Mon)

Interfaith Youth Cooperative Actions for Peace (IYCAP), under the umbrella of Nyein Foundation’s Nurturing Youth PeaceBuilders Program, held a celebration of the Diwali Festival, at Mahar Lachmi Hall, Dai Wun Kwin Ward, Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, on Oct 28, 2019.

The event began with offering candle lights to the gods and opening remarks by Daw Su Su Wai, Director (program support) of Nyein Foundation. Following her speech, it was U Aung Khin, chairperson of a Hindu religious group gave a brief account of the history of Diwali and its purposes, followed by youth Hindus’ performance under the theme of Diwali, Metta Sat Waing’s songs sung by IYCAP alumni, word of thanks by Daw Lum Ra, program manager of Nyein Foundation. During the celebrations, all attendees were provided with refreshments including Hindu traditional sweets and vegetarian meals.

The celebration aimed to provide interfaith youths with noteworthy facts about the Diwali Festival, encourage them to value it and promote mutual friendship and trust among them.
